I was born with a soft, beautiful lustrous hair that had a striking density. I just couldn’t get enough of compliments from family and friends. In my late teens, I did many experiments with my hair in order to get a model-like look. The many adverts had given me an inspiration of what all these “experiments” promised. Fast forward to 2015, my hair having given up to this chemical abuse had become one hell of a mess. I began losing hair, particularly in the back of my head. In addition to that, I started developing inflammations on the lower back of my head, a condition which I later learned is known as Acne Keloidalis.
The ingrowing hairs caused me to have progressive scarring alopecia at these regions. At first, I had been led to believe it was a simple bacterial infection. But after taking a series of antibiotics, I came to a conclusion that there was something more serious that was impending. In one way or another, I ended up searching for anyone with a similar condition, solution or just any information I could get regarding my situation on the internet. That is how I met Dr. Bahareh B. Khavarian, a dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon. I booked an appointment in her clinic called Advanced Hair Restoration which is located in Newport Beach.
I had convinced myself that this was the best place just in the first day of the appointment. Advanced restoration clinic has the happiest patients, I must admit. The entire staff believes in building an honest relationship with their clients. According to me, the way I am handled in a facility is the main factor I must always put into consideration. Unlike other clinics that market crap just to get to your pocket, you will be intrigued by the care you are given at Advanced Hair Restoration clinic.
After the initial two appointments, I learned that the good hair treatment results that are synonymous with the clinic are because of to the staff’s good tradition and policy. One surgeon focuses on a single patient. Unlike the other companies which I had read their reviews where a single doctor books an upward of seven patients. You get an entirely new experience as clients are given a dedicated attention that only a mother can give.
Despite the fact that the treatment of Acne Keloidalis is considered difficult and that numerous modalities have been applied with varying degree of success, with Dr. Bahareh B, I knew I was in the right hands. After discussing several alternative treatment paths, I selected a short course of steroid. In this treatment technique, I was to be injected with prednisone. This steroid was injected directly on the bumps. I must give a heads up, though, the numbing feeling after the injection really sucks. However, it is totally worth it.
I am beginning the third week into the therapy. So far so good, I can’t complain, and the progress is promising. The bumps are shrinking at a steady pace. Some have disappeared completely. The doctor told me that I would have an antibiotic prescription after the end of the fourth week, which will be my final week of therapy. After that, the hair loss treatment at the healed spots will be addressed. You can guess how happy I am.
